WASH in Schools is not only an infrastructure challenge. It is also an opportunity for learning, inner development and leadership. Water Means Learning explores this connection through the Inner Development Goals.
The Inner Development Goals (IDGs):
A Framework for Human Growth
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) define 17 interconnected global goals for people and the planet, addressing challenges such as poverty, education, health, water and climate change.
The Inner Development Goals highlight the inner capacities needed to address complex sustainability challenges. In the context of SDG 6, these capacities can support efforts to transform water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in schools.
The IDGs help us translate intention into action.
The IDGs as Leverage for WASH in Schools Transformation
Water Means Learning connects practical WASH experiences with the five IDGs dimensions.
Developing a sense of purpose through meaningful water infrastructure challenges.
Learning through reflection.
Connecting learning with responsible decisions.
Recognizing environmental and social systems.
Building sustainable learning environments and long-term community resilience.
Fostering systems thinking as a mindset to problem-solving.
Developing future leaders capable of driving collective action.
